Thursday 4th June 2026 marked a truly historic occasion in Worcestershire Freemasonry with the Consecration of The Lodge of Direction No. 10088 at Freemasons' Hall, Kings Heath, Birmingham.
The formation of a new Lodge is a rare event in any Province, and this was only the sixth new Lodge to be consecrated in Worcestershire in the last twelve years. Such occasions are steeped in tradition, symbolism and significance, and the atmosphere throughout the day reflected the importance of the moment.
Approximately 160 Brethren attended the ceremony, including a distinguished gathering of Grand Officers, Provincial Grand Officers and senior Freemasons from across the Province and beyond, all eager to witness the birth of this unique new Lodge.
The ceremony commenced with the Consecration of the Lodge by the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Stephen John Wyer, assisted by a full Provincial Team. The ceremony was conducted to an exceptionally high standard, with the Provincial Team delivering a memorable and inspiring performance. Particular praise must be given to the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother Alan Bolton, whose leadership and direction ensured the smooth and dignified conduct of this landmark occasion.
Following the Consecration, the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Michael J. Dykes, superbly installed Worshipful Brother Pete Broughton as the inaugural Worshipful Master of The Lodge of Direction. It was an emotional and proud moment for Pete, whose dedication to ceremonial excellence and service to Worcestershire Masonry has been widely recognised over many years.
Having taken the Chair of King Solomon, Worshipful Brother Broughton proceeded to appoint and invest his officers for the ensuing year, formally establishing the Lodge's leadership team and setting the foundations for its future success.
The significance of the new Lodge was further highlighted by the remarkable attendance of its founders. Thirty-eight of the forty Founders were present, an impressive show of commitment and support. The founders share a unique bond, being all current or former Provincial Directors of Ceremonies or Assistant Provincial Directors of Ceremonies within either Craft Freemasonry or Royal Arch Chapter.
The Lodge has been formed with a clear and important purpose within Worcestershire Freemasonry:
To provide guidance, mentorship and support to Lodge and Chapter Directors of Ceremonies and their Assistants.
To maintain and uphold the high ritual standards for which Worcestershire Masonry is renowned.
To retain and utilise the considerable skills and experience of Provincial Directors and Assistant Directors of Ceremonies in assisting, training and supporting future generations of ceremonial officers.
These aims ensure that The Lodge of Direction will play a vital role in preserving and developing the ceremonial traditions and standards of the Province for many years to come.
Following the formal proceedings, Brethren enjoyed a joyous and celebratory Festive Board. The atmosphere was one of pride, friendship and optimism as members and guests reflected upon a truly memorable day and looked forward to the future of this newly consecrated Lodge.
The Consecration of The Lodge of Direction No. 10088 was not only a magnificent ceremony but also a significant milestone for Worcestershire Freemasonry. Those fortunate enough to be present witnessed history being made and will undoubtedly remember the occasion for many years to come.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Worshipful Master Pete Broughton, his Officers and all the Founders of The Lodge of Direction No. 10088, and wish them every success for the future.
