Dormer Lives On Through the Widows Sons

Dormer Lodge No. 7294 had been due to return its warrant this year, bringing to a close many years of valued Masonic service. However, through the gracious support and goodwill of its members, a new chapter has begun. With their blessing, the Widows Sons have ensured that the Lodge’s story does not end, but instead continues in a new and vibrant form as a Summer Lodge.

At the Lodge’s final meeting under its former constitution, a poignant and memorable moment took place. In the last item of business, the members of Dormer Lodge - each of whom has now found a new Masonic home - formally passed the reins to fifteen new joining members from the Widows Sons Worcestershire Chapter. The newly appointed Worshipful Master, WBro Andy Philpott, then appointed his officers to serve for the remainder of the year, marking the beginning of this renewed journey.

In a deeply moving gesture, the former members departed through a column of brethren to warm and sustained applause - an acknowledgement of their dedication and the legacy they leave behind. The brethren then retired to an enjoyable Festive Board, where WBro Vern Littley delivered an engaging and thoughtful talk on the history of Dormer Lodge, reflecting on the many years of fellowship and service it has provided.

As one member aptly observed:

“Though the old Lodge effectively closes tonight, its spirit endures in the new Lodge.”

The Lodge will now continue as a peripatetic Lodge, with its base at Worcester Masonic Hall, under the proposed name Widows Sons Vertis Lodge No. 7294 - subject, of course, to approval by UGLE.

Thus, while one chapter has gently closed, another begins, ensuring that the traditions, friendship, and spirit of Dormer Lodge will continue to flourish for many years to come.
